Turnaround

Brief to launch

The brief

Civcon delivers highways infrastructure, drainage, surfacing and public realm work for local authorities and tier-one contractors across Yorkshire. They needed a site that stood up to scrutiny from framework buyers at Leeds City Council and contractors like Colas and Octavius, and matched the other Fructus Group sites we build.

The challenge

Civcon competes for framework and tier-one civil engineering work across eight disciplines: highways infrastructure, drainage, surfacing, traffic signals, utilities and public realm among them. The buyers are procurement teams at Leeds City Council, Bradford and Barnsley, and contractors like Colas and Octavius, who judge a subcontractor partly on whether they look like a serious operation. The old presence did not carry that weight, and it needed to sit consistently with Procon and HTS, the sibling Fructus Group sites we already build.

Our approach

We structured the site around the eight service lines so a framework buyer finds the exact capability they are sourcing, surfaced the council and tier-one client roster and CHAS accreditation as proof, and kept the copy plain and credible rather than salesy. As Adam put it, it had to work as hard as a capability statement. In 2026 we redesigned it end to end, led by aerial photography of Civcon's own schemes — Bramley Bus Station, Chapel Allerton, Lawnswood Roundabout, M1 Junction 46 — so the evidence is the design.

Decisions, and what they beat

  • D1

Structure around the eight service lines, not one generic services page

    Instead of

Single services list (rejected: framework buyers source by discipline)

  • D2

Surface the council and tier-one client roster and CHAS up front

    Instead of

Client list on a sub-page (rejected: the roster is the credibility)

  • D3

Redesign in 2026, led by real scheme photography

    Instead of

Patch the original build (rejected: the schemes themselves are the strongest asset, so the site now leads with them)

“The website showcases the history of Civcon. When we're tendering for a ducting or surfacing job, clients can go on and see where we've done it before. It shows our expertise, it's clean and simple to navigate, and it's as strong, if not stronger, than a capability statement.”
