Replies from David, usually within one working day

Bespoke web design. No templates. Price published.

Custom web design for UK small businesses, designed from a blank page rather than assembled from a bought theme. The price is on the page rather than quoted after a scoping call, and the site is live in ten working days.

Live within ten working days of brief lock, or the second half of the invoice waits until it is one 20-minute call and we do the rest price fixed in writing before anything starts

Built for one business. Priced like a real number.

  1. D01

    Designed from a blank page

No bought theme, no starter layout, no demo site with your logo dropped into it.

The structure of the page comes out of what you sell and what your buyer is nervous about, which means the section order is an argument rather than a container. That is the whole difference, and it is why two Lucent builds for two industries look nothing like each other.

  2. D02

A straight figure, on a bespoke build

Bespoke normally means the number arrives after you are invested, and after a proposal has been written to justify it.

Ours arrives on the first call, before you have spent anything: design, copy, build, on-page SEO and hosting setup included, the launch fee waived if you commit for 12 months. Same figure for everyone, decided before the call rather than during it.

  3. D03

Ten working days, not ten weeks

The market norm for a custom site is six to twelve weeks, and most of that is waiting: on feedback, on content you were asked to write, on a project nobody is driving.

Ten working days from kickoff here, because the scope is fixed, the copy is written for you rather than requested from you, and there is no queue between the stages.

  4. D04

    Bespoke, not proprietary

Custom work does not have to trap you, and when it does that is usually the agency protecting a retainer.

Standard WordPress and Bricks underneath, so any developer in the country can take it on. You get the login, the brand files and full ownership, and you can edit it yourself the same afternoon you launch.

Procon 24/7, a Leeds ready-mix concrete firm, has run its Google Ads through us since 2022. These numbers come straight from their own revenue reports, reconciled invoice by invoice against ad spend.

£1,215,784

tracked revenue from the campaigns, 2022 to date

9.1×

return on ad spend. Every £1 in came back as £9.11 in tracked sales.

1,902 new customers. 12,887 tracked calls. 8,618 cubic metres of concrete sold.

Six industries. No shared skeleton.

The fastest way to test anyone's bespoke claim is to look at three of their builds side by side and see whether the layouts are related. Here are ours: a fifty-year family greengrocer, a concrete supplier, an aesthetics clinic, scaffolders, roofers and a civils contractor. Same studio, same ten days, no two built the same way.

What you get

What you actually get.

One product, two ways to start. The monthly is the same either way: what changes is whether you pay the launch fee to keep the door open, or commit and let us waive it. We recommend Committed, because it costs nothing to begin and it is the one carrying the 90-day guarantee. We give you the figure on the audit call, once we have seen the job.

What you get for it.

  1. 01

You get found by people already looking to buy

Your Google Business Profile run properly rather than just filled in, and local SEO across the towns you actually cover: the searches with a job attached, not vanity terms.

  2. 02

You can count the enquiries, not guess at them

Every enquiry your site produces lands in your inbox and in your dashboard, next to the search that produced it. If it is not working you will see it before we tell you.

  3. 03

You stop thinking about the website

Hosting, security, backups, updates and content changes are in the price. Nothing to renew, nothing to chase, no annual invoice you forgot was coming.

  4. 04

    You own it, outright

Design, copy and code. Yours the day the launch fee clears on Flexible, or at month 12 on Committed. Not rented, not held on our hosting.

Before we start we write down what you get in a normal month. If your site hasn't beaten it by day 90, you leave owing nothing and keep the site.

Every client gets a private members' portal: your site's live performance (traffic, rankings, enquiries) in one place, plus first access to services we don't sell publicly.

Our guarantee: Live within ten working days of brief lock, or the second half of the invoice waits until it is.

Fixed price agreed in writing before anything starts.

The awkward questions

What people actually ask about bespoke

  1. Every agency says bespoke. How would I know the difference?

Ask for three sites they have built for three different industries. If the layouts are siblings, you are looking at one theme in three colourways, whatever the sales page says.

Then ask what on a particular build exists because of that client and would be nonsense on anybody else's site. A studio doing the work can answer that instantly. The section above is that test run on our own portfolio: a fifty-year greengrocer, a concrete supplier and an aesthetics clinic, sharing no skeleton.

  2. Bespoke usually means an open-ended quote. What is this actually going to cost?

A launch fee to start and a monthly after it, and whatever we agree is the whole figure rather than a starting point.

It covers the design, the copy, the build, on-page SEO and the hosting setup. There is no scope-creep invoice once the build begins, and the figure is fixed in writing before anything starts. Commit for 12 months and the launch fee is waived.

  3. How long is this going to drag on for?

Ten working days from kickoff to live, and kickoff happens within seven days of signing. You are asked for roughly two hours of input in total, at two defined points.

The reason most custom projects run to three months is not the designing, it is the waiting, and the process here is built to remove the waiting rather than to rush the work.

  4. If it is custom, am I stuck with you to change anything?

No, and the escape routes are worth stating before you ask for them. The site is standard WordPress with Bricks, so any competent developer can maintain it.

You own it outright, you can edit it yourself, and you leave on thirty days' notice on the flexible term. If your enquiries have not beaten your own starting number by day ninety, you leave owing nothing and keep the site.

  5. Are we too small for a bespoke agency?

Small UK service businesses are the entire client list. The studio is deliberately small: David designs and builds every site himself, which is why there is no account-management layer in the price and why a bespoke build lands at a small business figure instead of an agency one.

If the budget genuinely does not stretch, we will say so on the call and point you somewhere sensible rather than selling you a thinner version of this.

  • What is bespoke web design?

Bespoke web design means the site is designed for your business from a blank page rather than assembled from a bought theme. In practice the difference is where the decisions get made. On a template the layout, the section order, the typography and the way a page argues its case were all decided by somebody who had never heard of you, and your job is to pour your business into those slots. On a bespoke build the structure comes from what you sell, who buys it and what they are nervous about, so the page order is an argument rather than a container. The honest caveat: the phrase is unregulated and plenty of studios use it for a theme with the colours changed.

  • How much does bespoke web design cost in the UK?

Bespoke usually means "we will quote once we have scoped it", and across the UK market a genuinely custom small business site lands somewhere between £2,000 and £8,000 one-off, with agencies going considerably higher. Ours is a launch fee plus a monthly, covering design, copy, build, on-page SEO and hosting setup, with the launch fee waived if you commit for 12 months. The figure does not change after a discovery call, because it is not decided in one.

  • How do I know I am getting bespoke and not a theme with my logo on it?

Ask for the evidence rather than the promise, because every studio makes the promise. Two questions do most of the work. First, ask to see three sites they have built for different industries: if the layouts are siblings, you are looking at one theme in three colourways. Second, ask what on a given build exists because of that client specifically and would make no sense on anyone else's site. A studio doing bespoke work can answer that instantly and in detail. On ours you can compare a fifty-year greengrocer, a concrete supplier and an aesthetics clinic side by side and find no shared skeleton.

  • Is bespoke web design worth it compared to a template?

Not always, and it is worth being straight about when it is not. If you need a credibility page so people can check you exist, a template is the right spend and anything else is waste. Bespoke earns its money when the site has a job: ranking for something competitive, explaining a service people do not already understand, or converting a visitor who is comparing you against three others. At that point a template starts costing you, because you are making the same argument in the same order as everyone else who bought it.

  • → Still curious? Book the free audit
  • What is the difference between bespoke and custom web design?

Nothing meaningful. Bespoke is the British term and custom is the American one, and both mean designed from scratch for one business. Where a real distinction exists it is usually custom development rather than custom design: bespoke functionality, meaning software written for your workflow such as a booking engine or a quoting tool, sits well above a bespoke design in both cost and time. If a quote uses the words interchangeably, ask which one it is pricing.

  • Do bespoke sites take longer to build?

Usually, and that is the honest trade. The market norm for a custom small business site is six to twelve weeks, mostly spent waiting: on feedback rounds, on content that never arrives, on a project nobody is driving. Ours is ten working days from kickoff, which is not a faster designer so much as a tighter process. The scope is fixed, the content is written by us rather than requested from you, and there is one person doing all of it, so there is no queue between the stages.

  • Will I be able to edit a bespoke site myself, or am I dependent on you?

You can edit it yourself. Bespoke does not have to mean proprietary, and when it does it is usually the agency protecting its retainer rather than the work requiring it. Every build is standard WordPress with Bricks, so any competent developer in the country can pick it up, and you get the login, full ownership and a walkthrough at handover. You can also leave: thirty days' notice on the flexible term, and if enquiries have not beaten your starting number by day ninety you leave owing nothing and keep the site.

  • Am I too small for a bespoke web design agency?

Small UK service businesses are the entire client list: trades, construction, clinics, scaffolders, a greengrocer. The studio is deliberately small, David does the design and build himself, and there is no account layer to pay for, which is exactly why a bespoke build lands at a small business figure rather than an agency one. If your budget genuinely does not stretch, we will say so on the call and point you at the sensible alternative rather than selling you a thinner version of this.

  • → Still curious? Book the free audit
  • Do you offer web development services, or only design?

Both, in one job and at one figure. Plenty of firms sell web development services and web design services as separate line items, which makes sense on a large custom platform and almost never does on a small business site: it is the same person doing both, and splitting the invoice mainly makes each half look smaller. Here the design, the front-end build, the WordPress work, the on-page SEO and the hosting setup are the price. There is no second development quote waiting behind the design one.

  • What is the difference between web design and web development?

Design decides what the page says, in what order, and how it looks doing it. Development is the engineering that makes it run: templates, markup, performance, forms, integrations, the parts nobody sees until they break. On a large platform those are genuinely two disciplines and often two teams. On a five to ten page business site treating them as two purchases is where a lot of money goes missing, because you can end up paying twice for one handover and owning the gap between them when something does not work.

  • Can you take on website development for a site somebody else designed?

Sometimes, and we will be straight about when it is a bad idea. If you have finished designs from a designer you trust, building them is fine work and we are happy to quote it. If the designs were made without anyone asking what the page has to achieve, building them faithfully just makes a fast version of a page that will not convert, and we would rather tell you that before you pay than after. The audit call is where that gets decided, and it costs nothing.

As director of a supported living provider, I needed a website that worked for two very different audiences: families making an emotional decision and local authority commissioners checking our credentials. David at Lucent got this immediately. He researched our sector before writing a single word, asked better questions than agencies three times his size, and delivered a website that does exactly the job we briefed. Straightforward to deal with, fast to respond, and honest about what we did and didn't need. If you're looking for web design in Leeds from someone who genuinely thinks about your business rather than pushing a template, I'd recommend David without hesitation.
