Turnaround

2 weeks, brief to launch

The brief

A 50-year family-run greengrocer needed to compete with digital retailers while keeping the warm, local brand intact. We built the e-commerce platform and the brand around it.

The challenge

Andrews of Holmfirth has been trading for over fifty years. The bricks-and-mortar trust did not transfer online: the existing site looked nothing like the shop, did not take orders, and was costing them every younger buyer in the town. The brief had to add an e-commerce engine without losing the heritage voice: a balance most heritage brands get badly wrong.

Our approach

We anchored the brand on three colours pulled directly from the shop signage, photographed product in-shop instead of stock, and built the WooCommerce flow around their actual ordering pattern (collection by default, delivery optional). Local-SEO schema, product schema, and a Lighthouse-90+ baseline shipped from day one. Training was a single Loom video and a print-out for the till.

Decisions, and what they beat

  • D1

    Use WooCommerce on Bricks Builder

    Instead of

Shopify (rejected: fees + voice mismatch)

  • D2

    Collection by default, delivery optional

    Instead of

Delivery-first flow (rejected: high churn risk)

  • D4

    In-shop photography only

    Instead of

    Stock photography (banned in brief)

  • D7

    Loom + printed training

    Instead of

On-site half-day session (rejected: overkill for spec)

“We didn't think a website could feel like us — but this does. Our regulars kept saying it looks exactly like Andrews.”

— Johnny Hunt, Owner, Andrews of Holmfirth

What we'd do differently

Next time we would commission product photography earlier (D3 instead of D5) and book a second shoot before launch to pad seasonal swap-outs.

Next door

Every build on this site has its own page with the same figures, the same decisions and the same client's words.
