What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file your browser stores when you visit a website. We use the minimum number of cookies we need to make the site work and to understand which pages help visitors, and we ask for your consent before we set anything that isn't strictly necessary, in line with the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and UK GDPR.

Cookies we set

Strictly necessary (always on)

lucent-cookie-consent: remembers your consent choice for 12 months so we don't show the banner on every visit.
quote_dismissed: set to 1 for 30 days if you close the floating quote modal, so it doesn't pester you on every page.
An anonymous session cookie set by our hosting layer (Vercel) to balance traffic. No personal data.

Analytics that set no cookies (always on)

We use PostHog, hosted in the EU, to count page views and to record an anonymous replay of how a page gets used: where the pointer moved, what was clicked, how far it scrolled, where someone gave up. It is how we find the broken step in a form instead of guessing at it.

It sets no cookie and writes nothing to your device. The session identifier is held in memory and is gone the moment you close the tab.
Anything you type is masked before it leaves your browser. Every form field on the site is replaced with blocks in the recording. We can see that a field was filled and how long it took. We cannot see what was typed into it, and neither can PostHog.
The page content itself is not masked, because it is our own published copy. A recording shows the pages as you saw them, so we can tell that a pricing table went unread or a form was abandoned halfway.
No recording is ever linked to a name, an email, or an enquiry, and the client portal at /dashboard is never recorded at all.

Because this neither stores nor reads anything on your device, PECR does not require us to ask first. You can still object, and the switch below takes effect immediately.

Analytics (only with consent)

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) cookies (_ga, _ga_*): aggregate page-view counts so we know which work pages convert. No advertising identifiers stored. We don't send personal data to GA4.
Google Ads conversion cookies (_gcl_*): measure whether a paid-ad click eventually led to a quote or audit booking. Set only if you arrive from a Google Ads campaign.
PostHog (ph_phc_*): if you accept, the same analytics above start remembering you between visits, so a return visit joins up with the first one instead of looking like a new person. Masking does not change.

Third-party marketing (only with consent)

Meta Pixel (_fbp): set by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) so we can tell whether an ad click led to an enquiry, and so we can show our ads to people who look like the clients we already have. If you choose "Just essentials", Meta's script is never downloaded at all, not loaded-but-idle, not downloaded.

That's the only advertising pixel on the site. No LinkedIn, X, or TikTok tracking. We don't sell, share, or syndicate visitor data to any third party.

How to opt out

You can change your choice at any time:

On this site: open your browser's developer tools, run localStorage.removeItem('lucent-cookie-consent') and reload: the consent banner will re-appear. (We're shipping a one-click "Cookie settings" button in the footer soon.)
In your browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge all let you block or delete cookies for a specific site. Search "cookie settings" in your browser's help.
Browser-wide GA4 opt-out: install Google's official GA opt-out add-on.
Meta ad tracking: manage it across every site at Meta's ad preferences (Accounts Centre → Ad preferences).

If you don't consent

The site works exactly the same way. You can browse, submit a quote, send a contact enquiry, and book a call. Nothing is stored on your device, Meta's script is never downloaded, and we can't tell a return visit from a first one or connect either to an ad click. The cookieless page counts and masked replay above still run, because they store nothing, and the opt-out switch turns those off too.
