Replies from David, usually within one working day

WordPress web design. Fast, custom, yours.

Custom WordPress built to a Core Web Vitals budget and yours to edit and own outright. No bought themes, no plugin bloat.

Live within ten working days of brief lock, or the second half of the invoice waits until it is one 20-minute call and we do the rest price fixed in writing before anything starts

WordPress done properly. Designed, fast, and yours.

  1. W01

    Designed, not a bought theme

We don't buy a ThemeForest theme and reskin it. Every page is designed against the decision your buyer actually makes and built custom in Bricks Builder, so the site looks like your business and not like ten thousand others running the same template.

  2. W02

    Fast WordPress, not bloated WordPress

Slow WordPress comes from a heavy theme stacked with overlapping plugins. We build lean in Bricks and ship to a Core Web Vitals budget with a Lighthouse 90+ baseline: fonts self-hosted, images optimised, caching from day one. Speed is a ranking and conversion lever, engineered in.

  3. W03

Yours to edit, yours to own

Bricks is the easiest visual editor in WordPress: change text, swap images, add sections yourself, no code.

All WordPress access, the Bricks templates, brand files, and hosting credentials transfer to you on launch. No platform rent, no SaaS lock-in, no agency holding your site hostage.

  4. W04

Built by someone who knows the stack cold

WordPress and Bricks is the studio's whole stack: every site we ship runs on it. David designs and builds each one himself. No juniors, no subcontractors, and no freelancer who goes quiet when the next job lands.

What you get

What you actually get.

One product, two ways to start. The monthly is the same either way: what changes is whether you pay the launch fee to keep the door open, or commit and let us waive it. We recommend Committed, because it costs nothing to begin and it is the one carrying the 90-day guarantee. We give you the figure on the audit call, once we have seen the job.

What you get for it.

  1. 01

You get found by people already looking to buy

Your Google Business Profile run properly rather than just filled in, and local SEO across the towns you actually cover: the searches with a job attached, not vanity terms.

  2. 02

You can count the enquiries, not guess at them

Every enquiry your site produces lands in your inbox and in your dashboard, next to the search that produced it. If it is not working you will see it before we tell you.

  3. 03

You stop thinking about the website

Hosting, security, backups, updates and content changes are in the price. Nothing to renew, nothing to chase, no annual invoice you forgot was coming.

  4. 04

    You own it, outright

Design, copy and code. Yours the day the launch fee clears on Flexible, or at month 12 on Committed. Not rented, not held on our hosting.

Before we start we write down what you get in a normal month. If your site hasn't beaten it by day 90, you leave owing nothing and keep the site.

Every client gets a private members' portal: your site's live performance (traffic, rankings, enquiries) in one place, plus first access to services we don't sell publicly.

Our guarantee: Live within ten working days of brief lock, or the second half of the invoice waits until it is.

Fixed price agreed in writing before anything starts.

  • How much does a WordPress website cost?

It is fixed in pounds before anything starts, not a vague 'from £X+'. The monthly covers the WordPress build, the brand foundation, the copy, on-page SEO and hosting, security, backups and content changes. Start on the launch fee and leave any month, or commit for 12 months and we waive it. The figure we give you is the figure you pay: a defined deliverable list, a defined timeline, and no scope-creep invoices once the build starts.

  • Will my WordPress site be slow or bloated?

Not the way we build it. Slow WordPress comes from a bought theme stacked with a dozen overlapping plugins. We design in Bricks Builder with a lean plugin set and ship every build to a Core Web Vitals budget and a Lighthouse 90+ baseline: fonts self-hosted, images optimised, caching configured from day one. Speed is a ranking and conversion lever, so it's engineered in rather than patched on.

  • Will I get a custom design or a generic bought theme?

Custom, every time. We do not buy a ThemeForest theme and reskin it. Every page is designed against the decision your buyer actually makes and built in Bricks Builder, so the site looks like your business and not like ten thousand others running the same template. That is the whole difference between a designed WordPress site and an assembled one.

  • What is Bricks Builder and why do you build on it?

Bricks is a visual site builder for WordPress that produces clean, fast markup instead of the bloated output most page builders leave behind. We chose it because it gives you a genuinely editable site without sacrificing performance; you get the speed of hand-coded HTML and the freedom to edit text, images, and sections yourself after launch. It is the stack behind every site we ship.

  • Can I edit my WordPress site myself after launch?

Yes, and that is usually why people want WordPress in the first place. Bricks Builder is the easiest visual editor in WordPress; you change text, swap images, add sections, and run updates without touching code. We hand over a Loom walkthrough and a printed cheat-sheet at launch, and the Stay Ahead retainer is there for anything structural.

  • Do I own my WordPress site, or am I locked in?

You own everything. All WordPress access, the Bricks templates, the brand files, and the hosting credentials transfer to you on launch. There is no platform rent, no SaaS that can change its pricing under you, and no agency holding your site hostage. The site you paid for is yours to keep, move, or hand to another developer.

  • How long does a WordPress website take to build?

Ten working days from kickoff. Kickoff happens within seven days of signature. Andrews of Holmfirth, a 50-year family greengrocer, went from brief to taking live orders on a WordPress and WooCommerce build inside that window: a fortnight, not the three months an agency usually quotes.

  • Can you redesign or fix my existing WordPress site without a full rebuild?

Often, yes. If the foundation is sound we attack the design, speed, and content layer directly rather than starting over. For Birkinshaw Aesthetics we did not rebuild the site at all; we worked the content and E-E-A-T layer and earned position 1 in Google AI Overviews for a high-intent query in 90 days. We tell you on the free audit call, honestly, whether a fix or a rebuild is the right call.

  • → Still curious? Book the free audit
  • Are you a WordPress agency, or a freelance WordPress developer?

A studio, which in practice means the accountability of an agency and the working method of a specialist. Most WordPress agencies sell you a senior in the pitch and hand the build to a junior; most freelance WordPress developers are excellent until the next job arrives. Here David designs and builds it, the studio carries the contract, hosting and the guarantee, and there is nobody to be passed along to. Ask any WordPress agency you shortlist who specifically will be in the site, by name.

  • Do you work with businesses in Leeds and Manchester?

Leeds is where the studio is, so a fair amount of the client base is within half an hour of it, and Manchester is a regular enough trip that we have a page for it. That said, a WordPress build does not need anyone in the room: it runs on a daily Loom video and two review points, and clients from Holmfirth to the south coast get the same process. Being local matters for the map pack, not for the build.

  • Can you speed up a slow WordPress site without rebuilding it?

Usually, and it is worth trying before anything drastic. Most slow WordPress sites are slow for the same handful of reasons: unoptimised images, a page builder generating far too much markup, a stack of plugins each loading their own assets on every page, and no caching worth the name. WordPress optimisation work goes at those in that order, and we measure before and after on real mobile rather than a desktop score. ProMax Roofing went from 19 to 98 on mobile without a rebuild. Where it does need a rebuild we say so rather than selling you six months of tuning.

  • Who actually builds my WordPress site: a junior or a freelancer who might disappear?

David, every time. No account managers, no juniors, no subcontractors, and no freelancer who goes quiet when the next job lands: there is a studio behind the work, not a one-off contractor. The person you brief is the person who designs, builds, and ships the site, and the studio is still there for support after launch.

As director of a supported living provider, I needed a website that worked for two very different audiences: families making an emotional decision and local authority commissioners checking our credentials. David at Lucent got this immediately. He researched our sector before writing a single word, asked better questions than agencies three times his size, and delivered a website that does exactly the job we briefed. Straightforward to deal with, fast to respond, and honest about what we did and didn't need. If you're looking for web design in Leeds from someone who genuinely thinks about your business rather than pushing a template, I'd recommend David without hesitation.
